Here is an image of how to thread the floating Harken double downhaul block. The stainless steel centre takes the load and the plastic top is just a guide that needs passing through to keep the block upright.
To re-thread the control line you will need to either redo the splice (if possible, often difficult second time with used rope) or use this as an opportunity to renew the contol line.
Yep it's a new boat to me and Ihadn't noticed but unfortunately it was threaded only through the top part of the block. I'm surprised it lasted this long given the top is plastic! I will refit the new one correctly.
But I assume I will have to also change my control line to fit it? From the broken block it appears they may come apart as there are some lugs that slot together (see photos), so is there a way of opening the block up to fit round the control line before reassembling?
Appreciate any advice, I need to get this sorted before sailing next Sunday!
