Mainsheet Block failed whilst beating upwind
There is ample space beneath the triangle for a small self tapper without damaging the hull. Confirm for yourself by runnning your fingers underneath the fitting . Drill a small hole in the triangle angled so as not to "hole" the boat and screw in a small self tapper. Depending on the "head " width of the screw selected you may need a washer . It works well but not sure how it fits in with class rules.

Hello,
I'm looking for some advice. Today I was sailing inland with 25knots of wind and a reasonable chop on the water. I was positioned half way back keeping the waves from crashing over the bow, Hiking and sheeting hard.
Then BANG !!!
I was now sheeting directly off of the boom. The large mainsheet block had become detached from the hull of the boat. I could see that the plinth it is attached too had slid out backwards overcoming the detent which locks the plate in position.
This was a first for me and was quickly resolved after 30 seconds or so it took me to realize the fault and how to overcome it.
My question to you guys is.
Has this ever happened to you ? Do I have a component that has failed or is missing? How do I stop this from happening again?
I was thinking the likes of a self-tapping screw to prevent the base plate from sliding backward. However, I'm unsure of how this could affect the hull.
